Daytrip

What you will experience during a trekking tour with Chiang Mai Trekking

We offer two options for daytrips:

Softer daytrip

A good choice if you are travelling with small children.

08:00 AM we will be pick you up at your hotel in Chiang Mai and will then do a one hour drive to the Mae Wang region (south of Chiang Mai).

Our first stop will be at a small elephant camp where you can meet and feed the elephants.

After another short distance drive of only 10 minutes to a Shan village we will start the hiking through mother natures great work and after approx. 45 minutes we will reach a waterfall where you will have the chance to splash around a little bit in this relaxing place and take many nice pictures.

Another 30 minutes of hiking will then bring us to a village of the Karen where you will have some time to explore the small village while we will prepare your lunch.

After lunch we will take a 15 minute drive to the start of the bamboo rafting part of your trip and we will raft your bamboo along the river for about 1-1.5 hours (depending on the season) along the Mae Wang River.

Each bamboo raft can accommodate 6-8 persons and their luggage, which is placed on a rack in the middle of the boat so that it is safe from the water.

Enjoy the wonderful flora & fauna left and right and slowly bid farewell to the amazing nature.

After the bamboo rafting we will drive back to Chiang Mai with an estimated time of arrival around 04:00 PM.

Harder daytrip

If you are some more into hiking through the nature.

07:30 AM we will be pick you up at your hotel in Chiang Mai and drive to the Mae Tang region (north of Chiang Mai).

You will have the choice of either visiting Mork Fa waterfall or make stop at a small elephant camp where you can meet and feed the elephants.

Choosing the waterfall the drive from Chiang Mai will take approx. 2.5 hours to reach Mork Fa Waterfall.
Here will you will have approx. 45 minutes to splash around a little bit in this very relaxing and scenic place and take many nice pictures with you and the pretty high falls of Mork Fa in the back.
After visiting the waterfall we will drive deep into the mountains to a village of the Akha tribe for approx. 60 minutes where the trekking will start.

If you are choosing to see the small elephant camp the drive to the camp from Chiang Mai will take approx. 1.5 hours
Here you will have the chance to meet and feed a small elephant family at the small camp for about 30-45 minutes.
After visiting the elephant camp we will drive deeper into the mountains for about 30 minutes to reach the start of the trekking part of the tour.

You will be trekking through the lush nature for about 2-2.5 hours to a village of the Lahu tribes where you will have some time to explore the small village while we will prepare your lunch.

After lunch we will start the bamboo rafting part of your trip and we will raft your bamboo along the Mae Tang river for about 2-2.5 hours in the sommer season (1-1.5 hours in rainy season) to a Shan village. The duration of the bamboo rafting heavily depends on the water level of the river.

Each bamboo raft can accommodate 6-8 persons and their luggage, which is placed on a rack in the middle of the boat so that it is safe from the water.

Enjoy the wonderful flora & fauna to your left and right and slowly bid farewell to the amazing nature.

Good to know

  • Do not ask your hotel or other tour operators to call us and make a booking for you.
Hotels or tour companies will demand very high commission payments from us for just making a phone call.
  • You can leave any luggage you do not need on the trekking tour with us.
  • Last Minute Shopping - you can buy basic toiletries, insect repellent, flash light or a simple rain cape at the local market where we will also get the food for the trekking tour from.
  • Slippery when wet: in the rainy season (June - September) or after heavy rain the way through the jungle can be slippery here and there - we will do our very best to pick the safest route possible.
  • If you have special wishes (vegetarian, no fish, ...) for the food we prepare for you, please let us know when booking the tour - we will make sure to prepare the most yummy Thai Food possible for your personal bias.
  • Take care of your belongings: We are not responsible for your personal belongings. Any loss of personal belongings during the trekking is at your own risk.
  • During very hot & dry months the bamboo rafting might not be possible due to the water-level of the Mae Tang river being too low.
  • During the rainy season or when the water level is higher bamboo rafting can be very tricky and there is a higher chance of a bamboo raft hitting a rock - please always wear the life jacket we provide at all times and make sure your valuables are safely stowed in a waterproof bag.
  • Sometimes after heavy rain bamboo rafting might not be possible due to the water-level being too high making rafting very dangerous.
  • Important things to know about how good the elephants are treated you can find here.
  • Read our flyer about Elephants in Thailand - What tourists need to know (PDF; 450 KB).
